ABOUT THE WINE

Sometimes it feels like winemakers are trapped inside their own heads. Every wine is a silhouette of an earlier one, stuck in an oenophile’s déjà vu. Not so for Headlock. We’ve escaped convention, fossilization, and flavor captivity with a blend of Charbono from Calistoga, Petite Sirah from Lake County, and Syrah from Oak Knoll.

The harvested grapes were gently destemmed and delivered into the top of the fermenter. After a short cold soak, the grapes were inoculated with yeast. Once fermentation was complete, the must was pressed off and the wine settled. It was then racked off heavy lees into a mixture of new and neutral French, American, and Hungarian oak barrels, where it aged for 12 months.
